Julie Broshat
I am from a family of 6 (4 brothers and a “sista”), wife and mom to 3 boys (one already in college and my twin babies head off in the fall…boo-hoo!). I’ve been putz-ing around with art for years. When the boys were little we always had a creative project going on. As they got older and didn’t want to make snowman garlands, sculpted masks (I still have them displayed and LOVE them) and greeting cards, I started coming up with my own activities. That eventually led me to embellishing belt buckles. I’ve always worn belts (needed to for the gaping back of my jeans…y’all know what I mean???)…but they were pretty basic. I love any and all accessories and thought, “Why not make a buckle a statement piece?!” And that was the start of it. I now embellish all sorts of buckles with many different materials…old hardware, other metals, vintage jewelry and gemstones, rhinestones and anything else I can find! Each buckle is an original and totally unique. My buckle adventure has turned into jewelry design as well. You’ll see bracelets made from antique drawer pulls and Victorian-inspired necklaces, all of which are blinged out and ready for either a night on the town or for lounging at home making your pajama set look a little more retro-funky! I absolutely LOVE what I do…just wish I had more time to create!!!
